Dedicated to the preservation of Hong Kong’s often tumultuous historical and cultural heritage, the Hong Kong Museum of History was established in July 1975 when the City Museum and Art Gallery was split into the Hong Kong Museum of History and Hong Kong Museum of Art.
A mix of permanent, virtual and special exhibitions awaits visitors at the vast Hong Kong Museum of History. The centrepiece is the Hong Kong Story, a permanent exhibition dedicated to the hard work done by the museum staff collecting, preserving and researching the history and development of Hong Kong. The Story comprises eight galleries located over two floors with over 4,000 exhibits, a number of dioramas and multimedia programmes and enhanced with special audio-visual and lighting effects that examine the natural environment, folk culture and historical development of Hong Kong in entertaining and educational detail.
