General Manager at Boy’N’Cow
As General Manager of Bali’s famed steakhouse Boy’N’Cow, Komang Darma Astawa relies on his expertise to create a comfortable environment for patrons. With social distancing still in full effect, we talked to Komang about staying positive and creating new ways to bring the signature cuts of meat closer to your home.
Q: How has the stay-at-home situation changed your daily life?
A: Surprisingly, it has changed my life in a positive way. Before this, I was spending a lot of late nights at work and missed out on family moments. But now, I get to spend my time with family and can watch my kids growing up, I am truly grateful for that. The other thing that I’ve been doing is really taking good care of my body by eating healthy, having good sleep and exercising daily.
Q: What activities do you like to do now that you must stay at home more?
A: I try to have a balanced life at home. It starts with a meditation in the morning and is followed by light exercise to keep the body moving. After dinner is movie time with the whole family. I let the kids choose what they want to see, and we get to enjoy this precious time together.
Q: Can you share any plans for your venue once full operations recommence?
A: I’m taking this situation as a learning point in my career. Right now, we are developing a new business model to be implemented in the future. We have launched Boy’N’Cow Meat Shop delivery to cater to our customers who are craving our signature cuts. This situation is making me realize that there are effective ways to keep the business running and give our staff the pay that they deserve.
Q: Is there anything in particular that you want the readers to know about your outlet during this situation?
A: Of course, there is! Aside from providing free delivery service to customers, we also have bottled cocktails that they can enjoy at home. We’re highlighting our barrel-aged cocktails, such as negroni, boulvadier and more, which have been stored for 20 days to bring smoothness to the palate. Another thing to note, we’re also going to open next week! Don’t worry, with social distancing still going on, we’re arranging the safest distance for the comfort and safety of our customers.
Q: Do you have any tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
A: Sleep early and get a good night’s sleep, because once everything is back to normal, you’ll miss this the most. Always try to keep your body moving with light exercise, such as yoga, cardio and meditation. Don’t forget to plan your next meal and prepare it in advance!
Q: Since you have to stay at home more, what do you miss most from normal life?
A: I have missed seeing the day-to-day operations at the restaurant and engaging in conversation with the customers. Not going to lie, I have also missed seeing how happy their faces are when the food is on the table or they just take the first bite.
Q: What is the first country you want to visit after the quarantine is over and why?
A: Probably Hong Kong because I had such a great time there.
