The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko, opens its door in the centre of a UNESCO Heritage Site in Japan.
Expanding its ever-growing portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has recently announced the launch of The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko, introducing a new level of luxury to the destination. Located in the Northern Kanto region of Japan, The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko is only two and half hours from Tokyo and is a promising destination that offers access to a range of outdoor activities and cultural experiences.
With an array of famous Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, Nikko has long been known as one of Japan’s holy places and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the cultural, religious and architectural significance of its richly decorated shrines and temples.
Situated in the centre of Nikko National Park, the hotel takes its cues from the picturesque surroundings by using earthy materials such as woods and stone throughout the property. Consisting of 94 spacious guestrooms and suites, each has a seamlessly flowing private balcony with an engawa lounge area to allow guests to enjoy the striking scenery.
Although nature takes centre stage at this hotel, Japanese tradition and craftsmanship guide the property’s four distinct dining experiences: The Japanese Restaurant offers all-day dining and showcases the vibrant elements of Japanese cuisine, while Lakehouse uses fresh local ingredients to create imaginative Western dishes in a tranquil setting. For relaxing, The Bar and The Lobby Lounge are available for a quick drink with small bites overlooking a picturesque garden.
As a new property, the hotel also introduces a new standard of luxury by being the first Ritz-Carlton hotel to feature an authentic hot-springs experience in the Japanese onsen tradition. Guests are invited to enjoy the spacious indoor and open-air hot spring baths, where therapeutic thermal waters are drawn from the nearby Yumoto Onsen to rejuvenate body and mind.
Furthering the guest experience, the hotel also embraces the local culture and tradition of a nightly meditation session.
