Located in Indonesia’s Anambas archipelago, Bawah Reserve is an eco hideaway that offers travellers a private island experience surrounded by the unspoilt beauty of nature.
Formerly known as Bawah Island, this little gem tucked between Malaysia and Borneo is an explorer’s dream waiting to be uncovered. Encompassed by lagoons and coral reefs, as well as dense jungle and mangroves, Bawah Resort epitomises the idea of barefoot luxury at its best.
Combining luxury with a sustainability ethos, the resort was built through the passion of Singaporean architect Sim Boon Yang. He was tasked with creating a holistic design using sustainable bamboo from Java, along with recycled wood. Melding contemporary taste with indigenous craftsmanship, he delivered exquisite, exotic structures built on footings that offer minimal interference with the natural terrain.
Within the lush resort, travellers find 36 earth conscious stand-alone suites that are enveloped by nature. Whether you prefer to sleep in the middle of lush greenery, by the beach or above water, the resort caters to your wildest dreams. The suites are elegantly designed and come with their own balconies. For something more private, the overwater bungalows are ideal.
Outside the comfort of your room, there are many activities on land and water, including daily jungle treks, boat trips, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, snorkelling, scuba diving, and the magnificent 22m infinity pool. While for pampering, Aura Spa & Wellbeing is fully equipped with relaxing treatments from head to toe using all-natural and locally sourced ingredients.
Dining at the resort is also a feast to remember and with four outlets there is something for everyone, including Tree Tops, the elevated restaurant among the rainforest that offers international and Indonesian cuisines, and The Boat House where you can eat freshly caught seafood with sand between your toes and an uninterrupted view of the ocean from every table.
