The opening of Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto, A Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa, marks the first property in the area where tradition seamlessly blends with unmatched luxury.
In the heart of Kyoto, alongside Nijo-jo Castle and on the site of the Mitsui family’s Kyoto home, maintained for 250 years, is the stunning new addition to the city. Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto elegantly embodies timeless Japanese beauty and refinement, encompassing the region’s storied history, and is now open and welcoming travellers seeking tradition and luxury.
To create this masterpiece, an award-winning team of design masters was led by Akira Kuryu, a design advisor recognized for his pursuit of architecture that blends with the surrounding environment. World-renowned André Fu was responsible for the guest rooms and interiors, while Shunsaku Miyagi designed the landscaping, and Yohei Akao took on the spa and restaurants.
Offering 161 guest rooms and 22 stylish suites, this is the first-ever luxury property in the area to have its own natural spring on-site. Since ancient times, onsen bathing – using natural springs – has been recognized as a way to maintain healthy, beautiful skin while relieving muscle pain and stress. The 1,000sqm Thermal Spring Spa at the hotel features a thermal spring, two private onsen facilities, four spa treatment rooms and a gym.
Designed to appeal to local and international guests, the luxury hotel offers two distinctive dining venues to tantalize the taste buds. The signature restaurant, TOKI, highlights traditional Japanese cuisine using French techniques to create a new gastronomy teppan experience, while Forni is inspired by Italian fare and serves regional Italian dishes cooked with Japanese ingredients. In addition to the two restaurants is the hotel’s The Garden Bar, the ideal place to relax and enjoy the perfectly manicured landscape with creative cocktails in hand.
