Marisa Fera – Executive Assistant Manager of Sales & Marketing at Park Hyatt Jakarta

Q: What are your responsibilities?
A: On a broad level, my responsibilities cover developing strategic action plans for the hotel to drive measurable, incremental sales revenue. We do this through developing and fostering business through pro-active direct sales, marketing, telemarking, direct mail, appointment calls and tours of the hotel. I continually build and strengthen personal relationships with new and existing customers as they are the pillars of our business.

Q: Are you a team player and a team leader?
A: I love leading from the front, and motivating my teams in working hard and achieving success. I believe in thinking big, setting the right tone and support for my team to do well. A big part of this is being focused-driven by the right data, and effective coaching of the sales team to ensure the strategy is understood and clearly executed. And of course, making sure we celebrate every success the team has achieved and recognising all the contributions that the team members have made.

Q: The most important trait to have in your work?
A: Oh wow, there are just so many traits to be successful in hospitality. To name some, these includes a commitment to ensure guest satisfaction, great people skills, leadership and teamwork, enthusiasm and a great attitude, cultural awareness and great communication skills. For me working in the luxury hotel segment, where we deal with very discerning guests, it’s really important to pay critical attention to details. You need to be able to notice the small things that are making big differences in a guest’s experience. The other critical trait would be a problem solving mindset. The hospitality industry can be unpredictable and you need to be able to think on your feet and solve problems quickly and effectively.

Q: What attracts you to the hospitality industry?
A: It’s always been about the opportunities to meet very diverse people and cultures from around the world. It’s been personally enriching learning how hospitality is expressed differently in different cultures. In some cultures, it is customary to offer guests food and drink as a sign of hospitality. In others, it’s to offer lodging. In many cultures, the act of welcoming guests is seen as a sacred duty and is a way of building relationships and showing respect. These learnings from around the world really help me with my team to offer the amazing experiences that we hope the guests will never forget while staying at Park Hyatt Jakarta.
