Melody Siagian – Director of Marketing & Communications at The Apurva Kempinski Bali

Melody Siagian

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities?
A: My duty is to guarantee the brand’s continuous success and further elevate it as the person in charge of coordinating strategic marketing and communications with the brand’s direction. In addition to managing the team and leading them, it is our responsibility to realise the brand through our combined efforts. An example of this is our 2024 brand campaign, Powerful Indonesia: Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, where we put our efforts and energy into ensuring that the campaign’s core values are reflected in all year-long initiatives, events and activations.

Q: What makes a typical day?
A: The marketing and communications office is like the hub of creativity. At work, a typical day consists of brainstorming, planning, researching, creating and constantly learning how to improve and refine to advance strategies and projects.

Q: What does your day off look like?
A: I like to maintain a healthy balance between personal fulfilment and being active on my days off. Be it playing sports, discovering new things, lounging on the beach all day, or just hanging out at home.

Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?
A: Staying creative is the hardest part of my job. When I am feeling stuck, I tell myself to take a break, go do something else and come back with a new insight.

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your career?
A: I have been fortunate to have met many influential figures during my career, and learned that there is one similar trait that makes them successful, which is the ability to keep on pushing forward no matter how many times they stumble.

Q: What do you find most satisfying in your job?
A: To be a part of the process of bringing ideas to life. It is satisfying to see that all of the hard work that went into planning and preparation paid off with excellent execution and impact.

Q: Name one really special thing about your property, The Apurva Kempinski Bali.
A: The Apurva, which means unique and magnificent in Sanskrit, is a fitting name for the resort given its amazing design and commitment to creating one-of-a-kind experiences. The awe-inspiring architecture pays homage to the Majapahit kingdom and modern Balinese architecture. Apart from its majestic design, the resort strongly promotes Indonesia’s powerful and diverse culture, craftsmanship and heritage, making it truly stand out as a destination among others.

Q: Tell us something about you that most people don’t know.
A: I love sports and I have competed in a sprint triathlon a few years back. I was also a DJ when I was in the university and got to share decks with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Gregor Salto, Diplo, Steve Aoki and Simon Dunmore.

Q: If you had not taken this career path, what would you have chosen?
A: I would like to work as a businesswoman, interior designer or doctor.
