Threads of Tradition at COMO Shambhala Estate

COMO Shambhala Estate is thrilled to announce Threads of Tradition: A Journey into Balinese Weaving, an immersive event celebrating the rich heritage of Balinese weaving in collaboration with STELAR.

Running from 26 August to 1 September 2024, at The Tea House, the event offers an array of activities that invite guests to delve into the island’s cultural and artistic legacy. The experience begins with COMO Conversations: From Bali to the World with Lorna Watson on 26 August at 11am. Here, Lorna Watson, STELAR’s founder, will share her journey in establishing STELAR, the importance of preserving Balinese weaving traditions, and her vision for sustainable craftsmanship. This insightful conversation is complimentary for in-house guests and open to outside guests for IDR210,000++ per person, including a free flow of canapés and drinks.

The event also features hands-on opportunities through artisan-led masterclasses. Guests can choose between a one-hour class to create their own leather key-charm for IDR2,450,000++ per person or a two-and-a-half-hour session to weave a panel for a travel/passport pouch, priced at IDR4,750,000++ per person. The latter includes personal monogramming for an extra charge, with a minimum of eight participants required for each class. Throughout the event, live weaving demonstrations will showcase the intricate processes involved in creating these beautiful textiles.

Adding to the experience, STELAR will host a pop-up store where guests can purchase a curated selection of luxury handcrafted bags and accessories that highlight the artistry of Balinese weaving. Lorna Watson expressed her enthusiasm for the event, emphasising the opportunity to celebrate and support the craftsmanship of Balinese weavers.
