Ubud Writers & Readers Festival

The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival returns from 23 to 27 October 2024, embracing the theme Satyam Vada Dharmam Chara: Speak the Truth, Practice Kindness. This year’s theme, drawn from the epic Hindu scripture, the Mahabharata, invites visitors to engage deeply with the principles of truth and integrity.

As the world navigates rapid technological advancements and an overwhelming flow of information, the festival aims to highlight the transformative power of literature. Writers at the festival will showcase their work, demonstrating how words can shape public discourse, influence societal norms and amplify values of truth and kindness in a world that often seems to move in the opposite direction. The festival has announced its initial international and Indonesian lineup, featuring award-winning Indian author Amitav Ghosh, Vietnamese-born Australian writer Nam Le, 2022 International Booker Prize nominee Bora Chung, and Indonesian writer Soesilo Toer, brother of Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Early bird tickets are now available for purchase at ubudwritersfestival.com/tickets, with discounts offered for KITAS/KITAP holders, citizens of ASEAN countries, and students.
