In an exclusive interview, Dr Adhiatma Gunawan delves into his unique journey from aspiring specialist to innovative healthcare entrepreneur. Now, with his return to medical practice through MAHVA Clinic, he combines his entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for personalised healthcare.
Q: You describe yourself as a “doctorpreneur” – can you elaborate for us?
A: After graduating from medical school, I wanted to pursue a specialist degree, but it didn’t go as planned. Then I spent more than 10 years building a business around the healthcare field. I saw myself back then more like entrepreneur, rather than a medical doctor. That was because I didn’t do medical practice for a while – specifically around 2010, and just recently came back to practice in 2022. Thus, the term “doctorpreneur” came, combining the identity as a medical doctor and entrepreneurial spirit of excellence in doing business.
Q: You have a very colourful career in the medical field – including building start-ups and communities. Can you tell us a little about these projects?
A: Back in 2011, I started my healthcare startup, called Meetdoctor, which was acquired by a Japanese company a couple of years later. After that, I started Moms ID, a community-based platform dedicated to empower mothers in Indonesia, emphasising in their healthcare and financial freedom. In 2019, I joined another thriving community, Good Doctor Technology Indonesia. It was one of the top telemedicine companies in Indonesia, and I was the chief medical there. At the moment, I focus more in helping people to live healthier and happier through my own establishment and practice, MAHVA Clinic.
Q: What services can we find at MAHVA Clinic?
A: Basically, the services are around weight loss and wellness. In our weight loss programme, we provide consultation with doctors as well as some treatments – including injection, oral medication and machine treatment. As for the wellness part, we focus more on prevention, such as providing IV drip and also vaccines.
Q: What makes them special compared to similar clinics?
A: The personalisation for each programme is tailor-made for each and every one’s needs. There’s no one-size-fit-all approach in this field of medicine; because every individual’s profile, challenges, struggles and needs are
all different.
Q: What would be your best advice for those seeking for a healthier body?
A: I always start my session with a new patient with three pointers. First, they need to ask themselves why they want to be healthier – I call this the “dreams and drives”. Second, I encourage them to start taking the steps to be healthier. I believe in progress over perfection. It doesn’t have to be perfect at once, the goal is to create sustainable mindset and habit towards healthier life. Third, pointing out the importance of consistency. You need to have the discipline and maintain it, it is the key factor to successfully reaching the goal.
