Yuke Francisca

Q: How do you describe your responsibility at Padma Hotel Semarang?
A: As the director of catering, my responsibilities encompass overseeing all aspects of event planning and execution, focusing specifically on meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), weddings and social events. I also handle strategic planning to drive bookings, enhance brand visibility and optimise our market position. Meanwhile, my responsibilities also include overseeing and directing the hotel’s sales and marketing strategies to drive revenue. This involves developing and implementing comprehensive marketing plans, managing client relationships and leading the sales team to meet or exceed targets. I work closely with other departments to ensure alignment between marketing initiatives and operational capabilities, while also analysing market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. My role is crucial in positioning the hotel effectively in a competitive market and ensuring that our sales and marketing efforts are cohesive and impactful.

Q: What attracts you to the world of hospitality?
A: The world of hospitality is incredibly dynamic and rewarding. What attracts me most is the opportunity to create memorable experiences for people during some of the most significant events in their lives, whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a social gathering. The constant evolution of trends, the creativity involved in event planning, and the satisfaction of exceeding guests’ expectations are all aspects that make this field exciting and fulfilling.

Q: What is a typical day at work?
A: A typical day is a blend of strategic meetings, operational oversight and client interactions. I start by reviewing the day’s events and any immediate needs or issues that require attention. Throughout the day, I coordinate with various departments, manage the catering team and ensure that all events are on track. I also spend time meeting with clients to discuss their requirements and provide updates on their event planning. Additionally, I work on marketing strategies and sales initiatives to drive future business.

Q: What is the biggest challenge from your job?
A: One of the biggest challenges is managing the diverse expectations of clients while maintaining the quality and consistency of our service. Events can be highly personal and complex, with numerous variables that can change rapidly. Balancing these expectations with logistical constraints and ensuring that every detail is perfect can be demanding. Additionally, staying ahead of industry trends and adapting to changing market demands requires constant vigilance and innovation.

Q: What do you find most satisfying from your job?
A: The most satisfying aspect of my job is seeing a well-executed event and knowing that our team played a pivotal role in making it successful. Witnessing the joy and satisfaction of our clients and their guests, knowing that we contributed to their special moments, is incredibly rewarding. It’s also gratifying to build strong relationships with clients and see the tangible results of our efforts in their positive feedback and repeat business.
