Aharimu reimagines the human form in a vibrant debut solo exhibition at RUCI Art Space.
Aharimu is a contemporary rising artist, and Figure A is her first solo exhibition at RUCI Art Space, which will be on display from 7 December 2024 to 20 January 2025. This milestone collection revisits the human figure as a medium of change, playing with texture, composition and colour far from conventional representation.
The display of 25 works, from painting and drawing to sculpture, harmonises classic bases with experimental techniques. Impressionism inspires Aharimu’s lively colour palette, while the strong influence of manga, contemporary animation and the surrealist works of Balinese modernist Made Wianta also blend in. Her unconventional use of tools, spades, and direct application of paint frees his works from academic rigidity. The result: bold, tactile and emotionally rich works.
Figure A is a composition by Zarani Risjad that dares the viewer to think of the human body not as some sort of static entity but rather as a vessel for endless transformation. The exhibition is very personal for Aharimu, reflecting her evolution as an artist over the past ten years.
“Through Figure A, I want to present art that is universal and accessible,” she said. “I hope it will be memorable and meaningful for our visitors.” Figure A offers an inspiring foray into creativity regarding the human form at its most dynamic, both for seasoned art lovers and initiates.
