Experience the Mesmerising Cultural Rituals and Absolute Silence at Jumeirah Bali This Nyepi

Step into a world of tranquillity as Jumeirah Bali welcomes guests to experience Bali’s sacred Day of Silence in its purest, most profound form.

Jumeirah Bali invites guests to embrace the tranquillity of Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence, through a deeply immersive experience of cultural reflection and renewal. On 29 March 2025, the island will observe this sacred day, a day dedicated to silence, a time when nature and the soul are given space to reset in perfect harmony as part of Bali’s Saka New Year traditions.

The celebration begins on the eve of Nyepi, 28 March, with Pengerupukan Day, a prelude time when the island comes alive with rituals dedicated to cleansing the past and preparing for renewal. At 4.30pm in Trowulan, the Mecaru Ceremony will mark the start of the evening, an offering to restore balance between humanity and nature.

As dusk falls, the mesmerising rhythmic chanting and storytelling of the legendary Kecak Dance unfolds, followed by the Tedung Dance, which symbolises protection. The evening continues with the powerful Rangda Dance, a striking portrayal of transformation, before culminating in the awe-inspiring Ogoh-Ogoh Parade.

This grand procession showcases towering effigies crafted by local artists, including I Putu Darmayasa from Ungasan village, South Kuta. In Balinese folklore, these Ogoh-Ogoh figures embody Bhuta Mandar and Bhuta Mandir—dark spirits representing disruptive energies. Through rituals and ceremony, they are symbolically purified, restoring harmony before the sacred silence of Nyepi begins by the next morning.

For those seeking a deeper retreat, Jumeirah Bali presents A Journey of Serenity at Jumeirah Bali, an exclusive villa experience available for stays from 27 March–6 April 2025, with a minimum two-night stay between 28–30 March. This indulgent offering includes daily breakfast and a one-time dinner for two persons on 29 March. To honour the essence of Nyepi, no check-ins or check-outs will be available on 29 March.

On the morning of 29 March, Bali surrenders to absolute stillness. The streets remain empty, businesses close and flights pause, creating a rare and profound silence. It’s a pure moment of silence, and also an invitation to truly reflect and renew ourselves.

At Jumeirah Bali, guests are invited to embrace this sacred moment and stillness within their private villa sanctuaries, surrounded by the dramatic beauty of Uluwatu’s coastline. The Indian Ocean stretches endlessly, golden sunlight filters through lush tropical gardens, and as night falls, the absence of artificial light reveals an unspoilt celestial expanse, offering a rare glimpse into Bali’s cosmic serenity with enchanting stars above.

With its Majapahit-inspired architecture and an ambience designed for tranquillity, Jumeirah Bali offers more than a retreat, it is a sanctuary that encourages disconnection from the outside world and reconnection with oneself. Here, Nyepi is more than a tradition; it is an invitation to slow down, to reflect and to step forward with renewed mindfulness. From sweeping oceanfront views to a deep reverence for Balinese heritage, Jumeirah Bali offers a rare opportunity to experience Nyepi in its purest, most profound form.
