FEELS LIKE HEAVEN
Westin hotels have always been known for pampering their guests, and in fact, they say that everything they do and everything they offer is designed to help you feel your best. With the very recent opening of the Heavenly Spa at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, that couldn’t be any more true.
This latest Heavenly Spa by Westin is the first of its kind to hit Indonesia, and it brings with it all of the signature sumptuousness that the Heavenly Spas have become so loved for. Each spa therapy uses locally-sourced ingredients such as seaweed for elemental wraps, as well as sea salts and coffee scrubs for full-body polishing. And as South Bali’s leading luxury spa for holistic wellness, the spa also draws on ancient healing practices such as Yoga, Meditation and Balinese Healing. It is a nature-inspired sanctuary for total body, mind and spiritual renewal.
Step into Heaven
I am welcomed into the spa by the soft sounds of trickling water and a refreshing sip of cool lemongrass and ginger tea. Delicate light woods unite with striking charcoal hues and heavy silver furnishings, creating a space that is sleek and sophisticatedly glamorous. I can’t help but notice how different the décor is to most other spas in Bali, many of which are often varnished with dark woods and sultry furnishings. Instead, I feel alive and energised by the bright and contemporary space, enhanced by natural light and glossy touches.
But my surroundings soon change when my therapist gestures a guiding hand toward a towering silver wall, one that looks like solid metal waves of water. The wall is actually two giant heavy doors, as thick as a bank vault and they soar above my head twice over. Then, as if the gates of heaven really are opening, the doors slowly withdraw, revealing a different dimension on the other side. In this other world, the lighting is mysterious and low, almost futuristic. A long winding corridor is both enchanting and bewildering, veiled on either side by hanging curtains subtly decorated with thousands of carefully sewn leaves. It’s as if a dream-like forest has met with a House of Mirrors.
My therapist guides me through the wonderland until we arrive at the entrance to the Heavenly thermal facilities. I have purposely arrived over 30 minutes early for my treatment to take advantage of this bonus pampering opportunity. As part of each treatment, guests are encouraged to unwind prior to their therapies, making use of the hydro-pools, salt-wall saunas and steam rooms.
The His and Hers hydro-pools are stunning, like magical baths of aquamarine blue with blissfully warm water. Once in the pool, you can relax in its own serenity, or make use of the tall water jets and their therapeutic benefits. The jets pummel out intensely strong surges of water, which, when positioned on your neck or shoulders, provide a wonderfully thorough massaging effect. As part of the Heavenly thermal facilities, there is also the herbal steam room and the Himalayan salt sauna, glimmering with a fiery orange glow.
With my muscles warmed and my pores opened, I am ready for my treatment. I snuggle into the Heavenly dressing gown, gorgeously fluffy and cosy. My therapist explains that if I want total privacy, all I have to do is put up the hood of the gown and the staff will take that as a sign not to disturb me. We wander back through the winding forest to my treatment room, named Ginger. Inside, a warm foot bath awaits with the relaxing smells of burning incense.
Transcend
For my treatment, I have chosen the Heavenly Spa Signature Massage, followed by a Revitalising Facial. The ritual begins with my therapist and I balancing our breaths, meditating amidst the incense to harmonise our minds. Her hands begin to massage each and every knot in my back with a ginger and orange massage oil, before a heated compression invites each muscle to relax and soak up the benefits of her magic hands. The therapist performs one of the most thorough Swedish massages I’ve ever had, leaving me feeling rested, uplifted and tingling with a new lease of life.
After sixty minutes of sheer bliss, the Revitalising Facial begins with a double cleanse of my pores using hot towels, and a relaxing “aromapressures, aromadrainage” facial massage with oils and balms. The facial uses products from Decléor, a Parisian brand that infuses the essence of nature into each beauty ritual. The following “lift and brighten” peeling gel does just that, scrubbing the skin without the use of grains while polishing my complexion with radiance and essential oils.
Next is a face mask that uses a “masque duo” – two different varieties to provide the ultimate treatment. First, the Decléor Hydra Floral masque is lathered onto my skin, cool and thick like a muddy clay. My therapist then dresses the clay with a sheet of feather-light fabric, before coating that with another thick layer of Decléor’s Aromaplastie Facial. It is a 100% natural mask containing wheat germ, linseed and sunflower that stimulates, moisturises and deep cleanses clogged pores. And with so much goodness layered atop my skin, the weight of the luscious clays makes the whole mask feel doubly nourishing.
After another “aromamassage” around my neck, shoulders and head, the facial concludes with a delicious moisturiser and a powerful eye cream. As I close my eyes and let the silky serum seep into my delicate eye area, I notice that all tensions have slipped away and my entire body feels totally revived. I float back through the dreamy corridor to the Heavenly Relaxation Lounge, where I recline on a squishy daybed lined with firm cushions. My therapist serves me an elixir of hot fresh ginger alongside Westin’s Signature SuperFoodsRX snacks. I munch on a fresh juicy strawberry, crunch on raw walnuts and let chunks of natural dark chocolate melt into my mouth. Heaven indeed is a place on earth.
