The recent Keepers of the Quaich ceremony, held at Scotland’s Blair Castle on 7 October 2024, inducted 47 new members who have made remarkable contributions to Scotch whisky. Among the honourees was Jakarta-based executive Ashu Kaul, recognised for his dedication to advancing Scotch whisky in Southeast Asia. Ashu, CEO of PT Pelita Makmur Perkasa, has had two decades of experience in prominent roles with industry leaders such as Diageo, Moët Hennessy Diageo Malaysia and Singapore and Pernod Ricard UK. His expertise in setting up routes to market and building brands has been pivotal in elevating Scotch whisky’s profile across diverse markets.
The Keepers of the Quaich society, established to honour those who protect and promote Scotch whisky, has only inducted about 3,000 individuals from over 100 countries since its founding. Members of the society are chosen not just for their tenure, which requires a minimum of seven years in the field, but for their personal contribution to elevating Scotch whisky on the global stage. With this recognition, Ashu joins a distinguished group of men and women who share a deep commitment to preserving Scotch whisky’s legacy.
The ceremony also celebrated legendary singer Sir Rod Stewart CBE as Guest of Honour, who was named an Honorary Keeper. This event, marking the 68th ceremony, showcases how Scotch whisky continues to inspire passion and dedication globally. Ashu’s induction is a proof to his influential role in the industry, positioning him among those who have made a lasting impact on the world of Scotch.
