Marriott Business Council’s Shoes to School initiative brings hope across Indonesia.
The Marriott Business Council Indonesia has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to uplifting local communities with the Shoes to School initiative. This heartwarming programme, which began in Jakarta in 2006, has now grown to encompass over 70 of Marriott International’s hotels and resorts across Indonesia, delivering more than 5,200 pairs of shoes to children in need. With an additional 2,000 pairs expected to reach students by the initiative’s conclusion, the impact of this programme continues to expand.
Guided by Marriott International’s Serve 360 initiative, which focusses on creating sustainable and positive impacts, the Shoes to School addresses a fundamental need while investing in the future of Indonesia’s youth. The funding for this project is generated through the generous contributions of Marriott associates, who have gone above and beyond, even converting their annual leave into monetary donations.
In Bali, Lombok and Labuan Bajo, 26 hotels participated, raising IDR472,000,000 to donate over 3,000 pairs of shoes to schoolchildren and orphanages. A significant handover ceremony took place at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa on 14 August 2024, with the support of the Department of Social Services for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of Bali Province.
In Jakarta, 2,335 pairs of shoes have been distributed through various community programmes, funded by IDR221,825,000 raised by associates from 15 hotels. The Sheraton Jakarta Soekarno Hatta Airport hosted a symbolic handover event on 19 August 2024, bringing together local foundations and media.
The initiative will continue to extend its reach across Indonesia, with fundraising efforts ongoing until September 2024. The official handover of the remaining 2,200 pairs of shoes is scheduled for October 2024, ensuring that Marriott Business Council’s mission to foster positive change resonates throughout the nation.
