Bali Island School celebrates a transformative year of triumphs, showcasing the extraordinary talent and commitment of its community while making meaningful contributions locally and globally.
With the year 2025 just starting, Bali Island School reflects on a fantastic year filled with accomplishments that demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence, athletic prowess and important community contributions. The last 12 months have been filled with development, creativity and unforgettable achievements that have left an indelible mark on students, teachers and the larger community.
Bali Island School’s students shone brightly in the academic arena, excelling in prestigious events such as the Bali Math Competition and earning bronze medals at the Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad. Their determination and intellect were further showcased at the World Scholars Cup, where victories in the Bali regional competition paved the way for participation in global events in the USA and South Korea. These experiences not only highlighted their academic prowess but also allowed them to forge connections with peers from around the globe, enriching their perspectives and fostering a spirit of collaboration.
On the sports field, the BIS Dragons displayed extraordinary talent and determination, achieving commendable victories throughout the year. The Basketball Dragons and the Girls’ Volleyball Team celebrated triumphs in the Bali Schools Sports Association championships, demonstrating their teamwork and dedication. Meanwhile, the Boys’ and Girls’ Dragon Swimming teams excelled at the Indonesian International Small Schools Activities Conference, and three swimmers made waves at a Swimvitational in Jakarta. The athletic achievements extended to the Maybank Marathon Bali, where a Grade 5 student took first place in the 400-metre Kids’ Dash. These successes exemplify the vibrant energy and skill that define the BIS athletic program.
Beyond academics and sports, Bali Island School reaffirmed its commitment to service and sustainability through a series of impactful initiatives that resonated deeply with its values. In Buleleng, a collaboration with national coach Agung Gantar brought a coaching clinic to over 40 young athletes, nurturing local talent and fostering a love for sports. In an inspiring effort to protect marine life, students partnered with the Livingseas Foundation to plant coral fragments in a protected area, contributing to the preservation of underwater ecosystems while gaining hands-on insights into environmental conservation. The school also worked with Villa Kitty to support the sterilisation of over 45 stray cats in Gianyar, an initiative that highlighted their care for animal welfare and their alignment with global sustainability goals.
The dedication to education and community engagement was equally evident in the Taman Bacaan initiative, where students provided English lessons to local schoolchildren in Sanur and donated books, including dictionaries, to promote literacy. Meanwhile, the Maybank Marathon Bali Sustainability Pavilion saw BIS students sharing their knowledge about sustainable practices with local students, fostering a shared commitment to environmental responsibility. Furthering this effort, a partnership with Maggi Farm enabled Grade 5 students to participate in workshops focused on sustainable living, instilling values of environmental stewardship from a young age.
Reflecting on the year, Marketing Manager Katharina Vika expressed her optimism for what lies ahead, saying, “As we wrap up this incredible year, I’m filled with anticipation for the future. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey as we enter 2025, a year that promises more achievements, connections, and opportunities for growth.” Deputy Head of School Alice Guzowski echoed these sentiments, emphasising her commitment to strengthening the BIS community, supporting teachers, and maintaining the high standards of education that make the school unique.
