Entering the last third of 2022, a lot has been going on for the island’s most prestigious international education establishment, Bali Island School. Starting from a remarkable result for its students to finish the 2021-2022 academic year with strong International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) marks. More than 113,000 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) students across the world received their results from the May 2022 exam. The statistics say it all: the BIS average is at 34.18, while the global average is 31.98. All the BIS students passed the exam, whereas the global pass rate is 85.85%. One student achieved 44 points to be in the top 2.4% globally, while another one achieved the perfect 45 points, becoming part of the top 0.7% globally.
“Despite completing a majority of their Diploma Programme journey online, the Class of 2022 achieved some fantastic IBDP results. BIS is proud of once again having a pass rate of 100 percent and an average IBDP score of 34.18 with both numbers being significantly higher than the world average. Congratulations to all BIS graduates of the Class of 2022,” said Klaus Weber, Diploma Programme Coordinator.
Following the graduation, in September the school held a college and university fair for new graduates of its own as well as other schools from all over the country, with over 44 universities in attendance. The event has been held online for the past two years, making the return even more exciting for the students and participating schools alike. There were 16 workshops, where students had the opportunity to meet individually or in small groups with university representatives.
“The BIS University Fair offers insight into the different opportunities at each university for prospective students. With workshop themes from universities coming from different parts of the world, students can hear first-hand from the university representatives about what they are looking for in the students. In general, University Fair broadens students’ perspective on universities worldwide,” said Noortje Janssen, the K-12 School Counsellor of Bali Island School.
Janssen also added, “The event also gives parents knowledge about the universities the students are aiming for, application requirements, tuition, and information about financial aid. It is the perfect forum for private discussions with the representatives, and definitely more comprehensive than emails.”
Lastly, BIS also announced that it will start the new academic year 2022-2023 with a new Principal, Mike Miller. Holding a Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership and Management, Miller is also familiar with other roles being an experienced IB Workshop Leader (for Heads of School and IB Coordinators) and IB School Visiting Team Member for verification and evaluation visits, as well as an experienced CIS visiting school accreditation team member. Miller joins Bali Island School with years of experience in the educational sector with prior positions as Deputy Head of International Schools of North America, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
“As incoming Principal at Bali Island School, I was impressed with the recent IBDP results, the life skills, attitudes, and aptitudes, the students have acquired. I am excited to be their principal as the students embark on a brighter future at BIS,” Miller stated.
