From the energy of the marathon starting line to fostering a more sustainable future, Bali Island School continues to exemplify how education and sustainability can go hand in hand
Bali Island School (BIS) made a remarkable impact at this year’s Maybank Marathon Bali 2024 by driving forward vital sustainability initiatives. Demonstrating its commitment to world-class education and impactful change, BIS organised a 90-minute interactive session at the Bali United Training Center on 24 August 2024, focusing on sustainability and global awareness.
The school proudly presented 18 of its secondary students as Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Heroes. These students led an engaging session for 50 elementary students from Gianyar, representing grades 4 to 6. The SDG Heroes shared their knowledge on crucial global issues, fostering an exchange of ideas and inspiring young learners on how they can make a difference in their daily lives. This initiative not only helped raise awareness but also empowered the next generation to become proactive global citizens.
In alignment with SDG #4 – Quality Education, Bali Island School took its commitment a step further by donating 125 books to 25 state schools across Gianyar. Each school representative received books to help enrich the educational resources available to students, reinforcing BIS’s belief in the transformative power of education through community engagement and knowledge sharing.
Reflecting on the event, BIS Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) Coordinator Ms. Brianna Roberts expressed her pride in the students’ leadership and initiative. “Being involved in this event has had a major impact on all the students. They had the opportunity to develop leadership skills and use their knowledge to impact the local community. It was a great day of connection, inspiration, and change-making that empowered all students to take action,” said Ms. Roberts.
