Balinale Returns with Its 18th Edition

Balinale returns this year, embracing the coastal Sanur and promising an elevated celebration of global cinema, culture and creativity on the Island of the Gods.

The Bali International Film Festival, or widely known as Balinale, proudly unveils a new chapter in its illustrious journey as it celebrates its 18th edition from 1–7 June 2025. This year, the festival moves to the serene coastal enclave of Sanur, in collaboration with Icon Bali Mall and The Meru Sanur. Together, they aim to elevate the festival experience, further cementing Bali’s status as a vibrant global centre for arts and culture.

Deborah Gabinetti, Founder and Festival Director, opened the announcement with reflections on Balinale’s remarkable evolution into an Oscar® Qualifying Film Festival. She also shared insights into the strategic decision to relocate to Sanur, a place steeped in cultural richness and artistic tradition.

Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra (Gusde), Chairman of Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur, spoke passionately about Sanur’s transformation into a world-class destination for the arts, wellness and the creative industries. He noted that the festival’s presence beautifully aligns with the vision for the Sanur Health and Wellness Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where innovation flourishes alongside a deep respect for Balinese heritage.

Adding to the sense of occasion, Ed Brea, General Manager of The Meru Sanur, shared his delight in welcoming international guests and supporting a festival that celebrates cinematic storytelling from across the globe. Trisno Nugroho, Economic & Tourism Expert, also highlighted the festival’s vital contribution to Bali’s creative economy, underscoring the powerful synergy between film and cultural tourism.

Nestled along Sanur’s pristine shoreline, The Meru Sanur, a luxurious all-suite beachfront resort, will host the festival’s distinguished guests, the prestigious Awards Night Celebration and the enchanting Closing Night open-air cinema experience (layar tancap), promising unforgettable moments beneath the stars.

Continuing its proud tradition, Balinale 2025 will present a captivating programme of Indonesian and international films, insightful industry forums and community-focused cultural events, showcasing the very best of storytelling, creativity and collaboration.
