Breaking the Boundaries through Voice Acting

For Jati Andito, being a voice actor is a true gift. Far from merely dubbing voices, this profession provides the opportunity to bring unique characters to life. From antagonistic roles like Scar in The Lion King to the narcissistic crab Tamatoa in Moana, Jati employs the art of acting to create profound experiences for listeners.

“Voice acting has a uniqueness that film or theatre acting doesn’t possess,” Jati explains. One of his proudest achievements was serving as the stadium announcer during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Asian Games, which were broadcast across 44 countries.

Beyond voice acting, Jati is also involved in various artistic projects. In the Indonesian animation Kiko, he and fellow voice actors performed without visuals cues, providing the emotional foundation that guided the animation team. Their voices shaped the characters’ personalities, emotions and dynamics, ensuring every scene felt authentic and engaging. This project even reached Disney, showcasing local talent on an international stage.

His versatility extends beyond animation and film. Jati has lent his voice to audiobooks, advertisements and even AI-based voice assistants, shaping how audiences engage with digital content. His ability to adapt his tone and expression has made him a sought-after talent in the industry.

Through the musical Fantasi Tuli, Jati took on the role of a teacher at a special education school with conservative views towards deaf students. He prepared for this role with extensive field research, gaining a deeper understanding of the realities and struggles faced by the deaf community. In this performance, Jati delivered art that conveyed a powerful message about inclusivity and linguistic rights.

Through his heartfelt work, he continues to push the boundaries of art to create meaningful impact.
