Chef Gabriel Fratini Held an Art Exhibition to Foster Hope for Kalawirandalam’s Future Generations

Chef Gabriel Fratini, the Owner/Chef of the award-winning Gab’s Gastro Bar, held “Friendship Without Borders”, an art exhibition that aimed to raise funds for Kalawirandalam’s future generations.

Nestled in the heart of Berawa, Canggu, Gab’s Gastro Bar is more than just a culinary haven; it’s also the creative playground of Chef Gabriel Fratini, the Owner/Chef of the restaurant. Known for his mastery in the kitchen, Chef Gabriel now steps out from behind the kitchen with “Friendship Without Borders”, an art exhibition held on 5 November 2024, where he unveiled his talent as an artist.

Chef Gabriel’s passion for art was born in Pianella, Italy, in 1958, when his school art teacher recognised his gift. Although unable to pursue art school due to financial constraints, Chef Gabriel chose cooking as his creative outlet, sharing his talent with global icons like Michael Jackson and Roger Federer. Yet, his love for painting never faded; Chef Gabriel carried his easel and brushes from Switzerland to Hong Kong, capturing scenes from Venetian canals to Japanese cherry blossoms. Chef Gabriel has also explored diverse materials and techniques, making each piece unique.

“Friendship Without Borders” presents 35 of Chef Gabriel’s paintings, each valued between IDR35–60 million. More than an exhibition, it’s a heartfelt mission: proceeds will go towards building a market and playground in Kalawirandalam, a remote village in Manado, Indonesia. After a visit there, Gabriel was moved by the villagers’ warmth, kindness and hospitality despite their lack of resources. Through this exhibition, Gabriel aims to share his art and foster hope and community for Kalawirandalam’s future generations.
