Q: Can you tell us about how you start your career in hospitality?
A: My career went back as far as when I was 17 years old, working as front office and telephone operator in a hotel. Then, I entered marketing at the age of 21 for a company that has four different properties. After that, I pretty much and got levelled up in position as well as moving between brands every a couple of years. I arrived at The Langham, Jakarta on April 2021, serving as the hotel’s director of marketing services.

Q: What do you love the most about working in hospitality – especially the sales & marketing side?
A: Hospitality is a work of passion and I love the connection we create with people when providing them with their necessities. In terms of sales and marketing, which is the department I’ve recently appointed to be in charge of, it is indeed very vibrant and dynamic. There’s a specific duty to understand the flow and demand of the target market. We are required to always be updated in the field of technology, trend, and specifically, to constantly renew and improve marketing channels. The point in this department is that self-upgrade is a must, and I love the challenge in it.

Q: The Langham, Jakarta is the first of the brand in Indonesia. How did you join them and how has the experience been so far?
A: The journey is from scratch. To launch and open a hotel in the era of pandemic is surely another level of new experience along with its obstacles. However, we surround ourselves with a passionate and dedicated team in a high work ethic. I was first gotten in as director of marketing services, and two years later appointed to fill the seat of director of sales and marketing. There’s pressure but also enjoyment. Working became so much fun if we can build a supportive and positive environment, and together we always try to achieve more, as a reflection in one of Langham’s commitment.

 

Q: Following the previous question, what is The Langham experience, and what can guests expect from visiting your hotel?
A: Langham is unique! Showcasing luxury in a playful and fun way, and managing a balance between elegance and enjoyment. All of that, because #CelebrateTheEveryday is a core key when we deliver our service. Now in my position, I’ll dedicate myself to emphasise that phrase to our target market.

Q: What is the most valuable lesson that you’ve learned working as a hotelier?
A: To make a good strategy, keep current, informed and updated. The most important thing is to maintain a good relationship with everyone because it’s a main key to be in the world of communication and marketing. We cannot work by ourselves and we have to be a strong bridge for every activity held by the hotel.
