Dhoni Ramadi – Executive Vice President – Funding and Retail Payment Division at BRI

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in banking and finance?

A: I’d say that having a career in banking is both interesting and challenging. I’m placed in an industry that centres around the rotation of money and economy, in which it is currently going through the shift towards digitalisation. The challenge lies within the need for constant innovation towards digitalisation while keeping in mind the interests and safety of the customers.

Q: What makes a typical day for you at the office?

A: My day in the office typically starts at 7.30am, with a great morning routine that is embedded into BRI’s culture. This routine is done in a large hall where all the employees gather to kick start the day with prayer, reciting the company’s vision and mission, and with a motivational story shared by different employees each day. Afterwards, important updates will be delivered before everyone goes on with their respective tasks. Personally, I go on with my daily meetings with both my team and the higher-ups regarding the progress and future plans for our projects. Aside from that, I also typically go out to meet potential or existing clients.

Q: Indonesia has seen solid economic growth in the past few years. Which of your products would you recommend benefitting people in the long term?

A: I’d recommend a product that can give safety and simplicity in monitoring financial status, such as financial and investment reports. This act of monitoring one’s savings and investment can be done on BRI’s mobile banking application known as BRImo.

Q: How do you ensure that you provide the most suitable retail banking products and services to your clients?

A: Before developing a product, our team has made sure to do our finest research covering all aspects. Such as our target audience and what we can do to help and bring to the table. We set a benchmark with top players in the industry and try to keep innovating to ensure our product is the best out of all.

Q: What do you think are the biggest challenges faced by bankers and financial professionals today?

A: The biggest challenge we believe bankers and financial professionals are facing today is the dynamic development of the ever-changing market. Now, the financial sectors are not only relying on banking but also Fintech players, since they also provide the same service on financial solutions. Our main focus now is how we can continue to thrive in a market that’s constantly growing.

Q: What skills does one have to possess to be in the position that you are in right now?

A: The skills that are vital to have while working in the field, to me, are the experiences and knowledge about retail payment businesses, cashless payments, the awareness of growing trends, including digital trends. Sales management is also an essential necessity, because managing thousands of employees and clients needs the sense of a strong leadership. Finally, work ethic is very important, and having a good culture activation programme is very important to the success of a business.
