Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in the hospitality industry?
A: My background is in Public Relations, and I have always had a passion for communication. After graduating, one of the first available opportunities in Bandung was in the hospitality sector. I applied for the job, was successful and have been in this industry ever since.
Q: What does a typical day look like?
A: Managing two hotels with different brand identities makes my day diverse. InterContinental Bandung Dago Pakar embodies a luxury brand, while Hotel Indigo Bandung Dago Pakar focuses on vibrant, lifestyle-driven experiences. As the Director of Marketing Communication, I develop marketing strategies that highlight the uniqueness of each brand. This involves overseeing branding, communication design, tone of voice, digital marketing and content strategies tailored to our different audiences.
Q: What challenges have you encountered, and how have you addressed them?
A: One of the biggest challenges was marketing Hotel Indigo Bandung Dago Pakar during its launched while simultaneously managing communication strategies for InterContinental Bandung Dago Pakar. The differing brand identities required a shift in mindset, moving from a luxury-focused approach to a more lifestyle-centric one. This experience taught me the importance of flexibility, creativity and having a strong team to ensure smooth transitions and successful strategies.
Q: What’s your favourite part of hospitality work?
A: The most rewarding part is seeing a campaign succeed and receiving positive feedback from the market. When a promotion or strategy goes viral, becomes a talking point and leads to increased bookings, it’s a moment worth celebrating. These successes are not just the result of the marketing team’s efforts; they reflect the collaborative work of various departments, as hospitality is all about delivering exceptional experiences.
Q: How do you unwind or spend your free time?
A: I enjoy spending quality time with my family, especially trips to the beach. I also practises Pilates and yoga regularly to maintain a balanced lifestyle. For me, exercise provides both physical fitness and mental refreshment, helping me stay focused and productive at work.
Q: If you could travel anywhere for a culinary adventure, where would it be and why?
A: Japan, without a doubt! I have yet to encounter a disappointing Japanese dish—everything is always authentic and flavourful. Whenever I visit Japan, I look forward to exploring its restaurants, street food and unique culinary experiences, all of which I find distinct and refined.
