Karma Beach lifeguard trains with Australian surf lifesavers.
In a groundbreaking initiative, Karma Group has propelled lifeguarding standards to new heights by sending Karma Beach lifeguard I Kadek Arya Wiarta to train with Australian surf lifesavers in Perth, Western Australia. This bold move follows Arya’s triumphant victory in the gruelling 13-kilometre male division of the Row for R.O.L.E. canoe race in 2023, where he outshone over 140 competitors.
Under the watchful eyes of seasoned trainer Deborah Dean and her team at Cottesloe Surf Club, Arya underwent a rigorous 10-day programme, dedicating eight hours daily to mastering essential skills. The pinnacle of his training was the attainment of the Australian SLSA Bronze Medallion, a globally recognised accreditation for volunteer lifesavers, symbolising his newfound expertise and commitment to safety.
John Spence, the founder of Karma Group, helped Arya on his journey of transformation by using his connections to make sure he was fully immersed in the Australian lifeguarding culture. With the help of Cottesloe Surf Club mainstay Jean Burling, a longtime friend of Spence, Arya was able to grow and learn in a supportive environment while in Perth.
Armed with elite skills and unwavering determination, Arya returns to Karma Kandara not only as a lifeguard but also as a catalyst for change. By imparting his newfound knowledge to his colleagues, Arya aims to elevate safety standards at Karma Beach to unprecedented levels, setting a benchmark for lifeguard excellence in Bali.
