Behind The Brand: Je suis Flirt
Bringing glamour back to the Island of the Gods, Je suis Flirt was launched in 2009 by design duo Indah Kalalo and Fabiola Aisha. Their partnership started in 2005 as show organizers in Jakarta. Amid planning parties, grand openings and products launches, they always found new ways to create customised looks for each event. When an offer to show their creations at Jakarta Fashion Week popped up in 2009, the fashion label was born.
Always on track with the latest styles and trends, Je suis Flirt quickly captured the hearts of Indonesia’s fashionistas. From the first collection featuring body-hugging silk jersey dresses to their most recent pieces flaunting silk, satin, feathers, leather and beaded embroidery, the brand continues to evolve and make waves in Indonesia and internationally.
E: In your own words, what makes your brand different to other local brands?
Indah: Je suis Flirt is different from other brands because our style is so diverse. This label compliments women of all body shapes – tall, short, voluptuous, thin, as well as women of different races and skin colours. We believe all women are unique, as unique as our designs. Our designs are also bold and stand out. When you see someone standing out in a crowd, you’ll know they are wearing Je suis Flirt. Our motto is to bring glamour to island life!
Fabiola: We have a very strong, glamorous, fierceness in every piece. We are both basically stage performers or artists, and when we perform, we put in our soul and dedication. This goes the same for our clothing line; it has a soul and stardom feel to it. It’s totally one of a kind.
E : Who are your idols or muses in the fashion world?
I: Mine are Anna Dello Russo and Jennifer Lopez. Their sense of fashion never goes out of style, they are glamorous, show stopping and always on point!
F: Mine would be Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Jennifer Lopez, Anna Dello Russo and Gisele Bundchen.
E : How would you describe the type of women who wear your creations?
I: I would describe them as confident, sexy, glamorous and daring to be different.
F: I would agree with Indah. Je suis Flirt’s women are confident, sexy, intelligent and brave!
