With more comfort and refinement, the 2019 Nissan GT-R premium coupe aims to bridge the gap between performance, style and luxury.
The latest evolution of a sports classic, the new 2019 Nissan GT-R features four models, the GT-R Pure, GT-R Premium, GT-R Track and GT-R NISMO. Clearly positioning itself above the Pure with the inclusion of an 11-speaker Bose® audio system, Active Noise Cancellation and Active Sound Enhancement systems plus a variable sound Titanium exhaust system and sitting distinctly separate from the niche Track and NISMO models, we take a look at the Nissan GT-R Premium.
Aggressive Exterior Design
Available in seven exterior colours the 2019 GT-R Premium is a fine looking four-seat coupe with aggressive and dynamic exterior styling that’s both attractive and functional.
At the front, Nissan’s design signature V-motion grille features a matte chrome finish and mesh pattern while the sleek bonnet features pronounced flowing lines. The curved profile of the front under spoiler and the sill, designed to reduce the amount of air being drawn underneath, helps counter high-speed vehicle lift and improves stability.
The rear of the GT-R continues to be defined by its iconic round taillights but the latest incarnation includes some subtle changes. The diffuser and side air vents are now incorporated next to the quad titanium exhaust tips to improve the car’s aerodynamics and the character line that separates the lower black section from the body panel is heightened to make the car look wider and more aggressive.
A Driver-oriented Interior
Available in black, amber red, Rakuda tan and the premium black Kuro Night, the GT-R’s superbly crafted interior delivers comfort, luxury and everyday usability. The leather-rich 2+2 cabin includes steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, fatigue-reducing sports seats and a comprehensive yet clear, easy to read display.
For infotainment the GT-R Premium boasts an 11 speaker Bose® audio system, Active Noise Cancellation and Active Sound Enhancement along with NissanConnect® featuring Navigation and Services accessed via an 8-inch multi-touch control panel.
The Powertrain
The 2019 GT-R’s 3.8-litre 24-valve twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivers a crunching 565 BHP and 633 NM of torque. The engine features plasma-sprayed bores for reduced friction, enhanced cooling, superior power output and increased fuel efficiency. It also boasts a symmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system with twin high-performance turbochargers.
The power is transferred to the GT-R’s 20-inch aluminium-alloy forged, premium dark wheels via a dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. During normal driving, the GT-R behaves like a rear-drive vehicle but power can be automatically diverted up to 50:50 depending on speed, lateral acceleration, steering angle and road surface. Braking is provided by the acclaimed Brembo® mono-block six-piston front and four-piston rear calliper system.
Living with the GT-R
Offering excellent build quality the standard safety equipment, electronics and other equipment is all you would expect from a top-notch premium sports coupe model and whilst the GT-R has supreme handling and is stunningly fast, like its predecessors, it’s equally at home around town or cruising down the highway.
