The masterminds behind Jakarta’s Potato Head bistro and Bali’s Potato Head Beach Club, both famous for their amazing atmosphere and excellent cuisine options, did it once again in 2013 with the opening of Potato Head Garage.
Located in the increasingly hip SCBD area of Jakarta, Potato Head Garage is full of quirky contrasts. Set in an immense space that formerly housed an indoor stadium, it marries the industrial look of an unfinished warehouse with the posh accents of an art deco mansion with a constellation of antique chandeliers hanging from the rafters.
The off-kilter yet classy decor is an ideal venue for the restaurant’s concept of a reinvented modern steakhouse. The menu features an extensive array of cuts sure to intrigue any carnivore, some of which are almost impossible to find elsewhere in Jakarta. All the steaks are cooked on a wood fire grill that burns wood from the local rambutan fruit tree, amongst others, imparting a uniquely nuanced smokiness.
As with other Potato Head establishments, the cocktails served in the Garage are given almost as much attention as the food and decor. Master mixologist Dre Masso has come up with a particularly impressive menu of mojitos, which come muddled with lychee, ginger and other refreshing additions. (www.pttgarage.com; SCBD Lot 14, Jl.
