Just a few months old, the multi-faceted, much-anticipated Potato Head Hong Kong is a 8,000-square-foot space, a collaboration between Tokyo-based architect Sou Fujimoto and PTT Family’s in-house creative team, blending Fujimoto’s signature style with the group’s drive to champion Indonesian craftsmanship in a modern context. The design therefore showcases a deft mix of contemporary and traditional influences through lightweight metal fixtures and heavy crafted teak wood. The mixed-used space evokes a residential feel with distinct areas that organically flow into each other.
The interiors are then an eclectic mix of Fujimoto’s signature pieces and authentic elements of Indonesian culture, such as hand-painted ceiling panels crafted by the Torajan people of South Sulawesi, custom teakwood furniture and mid-century antiques.
Potato Head Hong Kong is home to a number of original lifestyle concepts, including an authentic Indonesian restaurant called Kaum, a state-of-the-art Music Room for audiophiles, retail spaces and a coffee house, creating a welcoming and bustling space for everyone to enjoy without feeling penned in – a rarity in urban Hong Kong.
