Take time out to reconnect with nature at Wapa di Ume Sideman, a boutique resort that provides comfort and relaxation in Bali’s stunning heartland.
With life’s rapid pace and incessant noise these days, me-time and relaxation away from urban life have become ever more valuable. With this in mind, Wapa di Ume has recently opened a new five-star boutique resort in Sideman, east Bali, retaining its belief in being one with nature.
Nestled into the rugged countryside, entirely surrounded by farmland, rice terraces and woodland and edged by a tumbling river, this beautiful, rural property offers many surprises. For one, despite the peaceful, green vista of nature at its finest, the lack of vehicle noise and the scarcity of houses in eyesight, you aren’t as remote as you would think. The village of Sideman, although tiny, is easily reached from Sanur and Ubud, and is a mere 30 minutes from the busy Klungkung market.
People visiting Wapa di Ume Sideman are spoiled for choice. Relax in your room – they all have a private terrace or balcony to soak up the ambience, lounge by the main pool that seemingly hovers amid the rainforest, take Balinese cooking lessons, try out the rich traditional nature of the treatments at the spa, do some yoga, trek the rice fields and hills, take a guided walk through Sideman or visit the local weavers. You are also in easy reach of many of Bali’s treasures, such as the fascinating Kertagosa palace of justice, serene Besakih temple, diving in Amed and Tulamben and white-water rafting in Telaga Waja.
The resort offers three room types, six Lanai Rooms, some of which interconnect making them ideal for families with children, 10 Di Ume Suites and five Pool Villas. Whichever you choose, you will find a light and airy space with whitewashed timber furniture, comfortable beds with mosquito netting, rustic floor tiling, a spacious bathroom with sunken bath and shower, a mini bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, air-conditioning and large windows to make the most of the scenery. The larger rooms have day beds, as well as tables and chairs on the terraces, while the Pool Villas offer additional privacy and boast idyllic private pools to laze by. Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, making keeping in touch easy.
The resort’s restaurant, Sleeping Gajah kitchen and bar, offers a wide range of local and international foods throughout the day, including excellent breakfasts, healthy juices, cocktails and wines. Local ingredients are used wherever possible and the local dishes are definitely worth trying for their rich, complex flavours.
Wapa di Ume Sideman upholds the brand’s long tradition of attentive service and is a great option for anyone wanting to explore the nature, culture and arts of rural Bali, either on foot, on a bicycle or by car with a tour guide. It’s also a good choice to just escape, stay in the resort, put your feet up and be pampered.
