Capturing The Essence of Tasmania’s East Coast
A Luxury lodge that connects with its environment to generate an authentic, enriching, rejuvenating and uplifting experience, Saffire is situated within Australia’s Freycinet Peninsula overlooking the wide expanses of Tasmania’s Great Oyster Bay. A fully protected national park where migrating whales and dolphins come to play; local farms produce fresh, succulent oysters in some of the world’s cleanest waters; and fishing boats bring in their daily catch of rock lobster, scallops and deep sea fish, dripping and salty-sweet straight from the ocean.
Located mid-way along Tasmania’s east coast, easily accessible by flying into Hobart where guests have the opportunity to use the Saffire Airport Lounge, providing unsurpassed service from the minute you step off the plane. From the moment your chauffeur driven car leaves the airport to the moment you enter Saffire’s tree-lined drive, impeccable service greets you every single step of the journey.
Boutique in size with just 20 accommodation suites, Saffire’s approach to service and design is not constrained by traditional five-star ratings and standards, but instead sets a bold new direction for luxury holiday destinations in Australia. Designed by award-winning Tasmanian architects Circa Architecture, the buildings are conceptually organic, reflecting the surrounding environment. Evoking a connection to the sea, through references to waves, sea creatures, and sand dunes, Saffire’s design is distinctly unique and recognizable, just like its location.
Inspired by the pristine natural environment, Saffire chose designer Chhada Siembieda to create a fresh, modern atmosphere in a relaxing, uncontrived style. The base palette of materials – stone and timber – closely relates to the landscape with colors, hues and extures that create an almost seamless feel between the inside and outside. The interiors do not compete, but harmonize with the area’s natural beauty and offer comfort and luxury one would find in a posh coastal home. The granite of the surrounding Hazards mountain range is featured in pops of deep red in hand-woven rugs bearing designs which celebrate the rugged beauty of these dramatic rock formations. Each luxuriously appointed suite has been designed to maintain utmost privacy while taking in the stunning views and natural light.
Fine food and wine are produced right on Saffire’s doorstep. The climate, reminiscent of the south of France, produces stunning, flavorful cool-climate wines such as chardonnay, pinot noir and deeply layered sparkling wines that have won international acclaim. Nearby, enterprising mussel farmers have created the world’s first commercial mussel hatchery at Spring Bay. Chefs choose the best selections from Tasmania’s succulent grass-fed beef and lamb, full-flavored game meats, fresh herbs and spices and seasonal fruit and vegetables. A sumptuous place to collect a book from the library or meet for a drink, The Lounge is a pure statement of ‘classic cool’ where you sink into an eclectic mix of chic furniture from original 1950s designers and manufacturers. A nightcap over a board game by the five-meter fireplace is the perfect way to wind down.
Within Saffire’s restorative sanctuary, the spa utilizes a unique jewel collection of deluxe facials featuring advanced technology to release the skin beautification qualities of sapphire, gold and diamond. All therapists are trained in the most advanced international facial techniques by celebrity facialist Marionne De Candia. Body treatments include the famous body-shaping DL Dioriti Volcanic Magma treatment while Natura Bisse’s anti-aging Diamond Collection with pure diamond dust combined with the Saffire Experience will enliven you with the radiant energy of the sapphire.
With the Freycinet National Park on your doorstep, there’s a world of deserted islands, wild bush land and secluded beaches to explore. The Wineglass Bay by Water Experience takes you on a picturesque boat journey to discover the internationally acclaimed Wineglass Bay aboard a purpose-built vessel appropriately named Saffire. Take in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife that surrounds you, stopping by one of many white sandy beaches that dot the Freycinet coastline. Stretch your legs with a short-guided walk along the pristine beach, or try your luck at catching lunch with Saffire’s skipper.
