SMEG and Didiet Maulana Showcase Iconic Fridge Design

Honour the rich cultural heritage of both Italy and Indonesia with a joint project by the illustrious Italian high-end appliance manufacturer SMEG and the gifted Indonesian designer Didiet Maulana.

This partnership brings to life a stunning hand-painted fridge that beautifully merges iconic Italian motifs with traditional Indonesian batik. It’s all part of a celebration of the vibrant cultural connection between Indonesia and Italy.

Since entering the Indonesian market in 2023, SMEG has been dedicated to combining style with practicality in every design. Their products reflect top-notch quality, durability, energy efficiency and ease of use for any modern kitchen. With a flair for elegance, SMEG is proud to introduce a unique cultural twist through this collaboration.

The collaborative fridge reflects a blend of contemporary art and traditional elements, inspired by the Palazzo Ducale in Guastalla, the birthplace of SMEG, and Indonesian woven batik. Didiet’s design features motifs like bamboo shoots and floral patterns, bringing a warm and luxurious feel with vibrant red hues.

Didiet Maulana, Founder & Creative Director of IKAT Indonesia, expressed his honour in designing this piece. He said the entire process took three weeks and was filled with deep meaning and respect for culture and art. The design celebrates the uniqueness of both countries, reflecting how humans grow and evolve through life experiences.

Before it heads to Italy, the fridge will be on show for a month at SMEG’s showroom in the Indonesia Design District, PIK 2.
