Soleil

Spoilt for Choice

Soleil introduces a new Family-Style Dinner menu, a concept guaranteed to keep the most discerning diners happy.

Soleil is just one of several exceptional restaurants located within The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas, Nusa Dua – three luxurious, interconnected properties in sprawling landscaped gardens alongside Nusa Dua beach.

Overlooking the Mulia Resort’s stunning Ocean Pool and white sand beach, Soleil’s sunny nature extends to its authentic menus, featuring northern Mediterranean cuisine, especially Italian and French, and pan-Asian, focusing on Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and Indonesian cuisines. Dishes are based on traditional recipes and techniques, each represented in its truest form and created by an accomplished team of international chefs who bring culinary expertise from each of their native regions.

Soleil may present contemporary Mediterranean elegance, but its recently launched Family-Style Dinner menu brings dining down to a more casual, informal feel as the weekend approaches – and it introduces new epicurean treats. The Family-Style Dinner consists of a choice between two set menus, exquisitely prepared in a four-course format: Mediterranean, with a predominately Italian-bias (the resident executive chef boasts broad Italian culinary expertise), or an exotic Asian-fest, incorporating mainly Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. Served on Friday and Saturday nights, the concept here is casual dining enjoyed in a leisurely fashion, amongst an intimate gathering of friends or family.

With a set menu format and a clear choice between two culinary regions, group dining out gets simplified, with no squabbling over what dishes to pick as all the work has been done for you. Comfortably settled on Soleil’s plush sofas and armchairs, diners can linger for as long – or as short – as desired over the four courses. Multiple dish servings are geared to the group size and can be adjusted to suit specific tastes, from gluten-free and kid’s choices, to a mix of both Mediterranean and Asian dishes.

With all Soleil menus, wherever possible, the kitchen team uses locally sourced, sustainable and natural produce – of the highest quality, naturally – from local farmers and suppliers across Indonesia. Thus, Family-Style Dining dishes are apt to change by the week, depending on what’s seasonally best and available.

From the Mediterranean Menu, you may enjoy the Piovra alla Brace, a wonderfully tender, charcoal-grilled squid, drizzled with lemon juice and enhanced with capers and red chilli, while the Ravioli di Manzo, a regional ravioli pasta stuffed with slow-cooked beef cheeks, showcases Soleil’s recently expanded repertoire of eight home-made pasta varieties made in-house daily, including three ravioli varieties. These pastas also incorporate an innovative use of local alternatives, rather than imports, like Indonesian-made cheeses; the divine fresh spinach and ricotta pasta features ricotta from Java. The mouth-watering Grigliato Misto di Mare, with whole grilled snapper, squid and prawn, is a magnifico example of premium local seafood, sourced daily from top suppliers, then prepared from scratch by the kitchen team; this freshest ocean bounty ends up not only in the Seafood Platter, but also in other Pesce de Mare dishes from both menus, including as tasty Javanese Soft Shell Crabs. Reflecting the resident Asian chefs – including Thai and Vietnamese: the latter rare in Bali – the pan-Asian dishes cover Vietnam’s iconic Goi Cuon Bo Nuong, deliciously fresh rice-paper rolls, but here, filled unusually with grilled beef strips, and the Thai Pla Kapong Thord Rard Prig, where wok-fried whole snapper gets spiced-up with piquant chilli sauce. Portions err on the super-sized (although beautifully presented), so you might need a break before continuing on with dessert – fortunately, these are light, balanced and typical of the region. Usually they are an unlisted daily surprise, from the Mediterranean assortment of Chef’s Favourite Sweet Offerings, decadence abounds with the Molten-centre Valhrona Chocolate Fondant and pistachio ice-cream.

Whether with family or friends, with these diverse and ample choices, everyone should be fully satisfied with Soleil’s inspired new dining concept.
