Piaget Reintroduces the Iconic Black Tie as a Tribute to the Pop Art Legend
Andy Warhol, best known for his iconic Campbell’s soup cans, was also a significant figure in the world of horology. Beyond his celebrated artworks, he had a discerning taste in watches. He famously owned a Cartier Tank he never set, and several Patek Philippe pieces have fetched over six figures at auction. However, his cushion-shaped Piaget Black Tie watch truly reflected his unique style. Purchased in 1973, this model is now set to resend as Piaget rebrands it the Andy Warhol, coinciding with its 150th anniversary celebrations.
The Piaget Black Tie has long been associated with Warhol in serious watch circles, even as the public often links him with the Cartier Tank. Although the watch has been available and in production with different styles, the rebranding makes it easier for collectors to recognise and identify it. The Black Tie has already been widely referred to as the Andy Warhol in the secondary market, but the new name will formalise this connection.
The relaunch introduces the Clou de Paris model, featuring a stunning blue meteorite dial that takes advantage of the watch’s more significant case, creating a striking aesthetic. This new model also heralds a revamped customisation program, allowing collectors to personalise their pieces with ten different types of stone dials and various options for bands, hands, and case materials. Piaget’s commitment to personalisation reflects its history of creating nearly one-of-a-kind vintage pieces.
With the Andy Warhol collection, Piaget is set to honour the artist’s legacy and engage a new generation of watch enthusiasts. This launch caps off an impressive year for Piaget, reinforcing its status as a critical player in the luxury watch market while celebrating the artistic spirit that Warhol embodied.
