Music has always played an integral role in Lydia Rose’s life. In fact, Lydia always knew that music was her calling from a very early age. She grew up in a very big musical family – she has six sisters and two brothers, and she was constantly surrounded by music.
Influenced by the timeless voices of jazz, she has become captivated by the raw emotion expressed by legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Julie London and Peggy Lee. However, it was Amy Winehouse who truly inspired her with her remarkable talent, vocal genius and undeniable stage presence. Beyond music, Lydia credits her family and musical upbringing as the foundation of her artistic journey, providing her with unwavering support that helped her artistry to flourish.
Describing herself as a “gypsy songstress,” Lydia believes this term reflects her two passions: travel and singing. The term “gypsy” resonates with her heritage, as she holds both Australian and Irish passports. This diverse background has allowed her to travel the world, perform at remarkable venues and embrace a nomadic lifestyle. Being of Irish descent, she connects with a large community of Irish “gypsies” or travellers. This word symbolises her love of travel and her cultural roots, which she embraces proudly.
As an artist, Lydia’s performances are known for their vibrant energy and strong connection with the audience. For her, the essence of a performance lies in this connection. She ensures that every show offers an immersive experience, inviting the crowd to not only hear the music but to become a part of it. That’s why she welcomes song requests, sing-alongs and her signature “Conga Lines,” turning every set into a celebration. Currently, in the midst of personal transformation, she is pouring her emotions into her most meaningful project yet—recording original music, which has proven to be both cathartic and incredibly therapeutic after going through a recent breakup of a longstanding relationship.
