The Marriott’s Initiatives

Marriott International in Indonesia signs a Memorandum of Understanding with PT. Pertagas Niaga to reduce its carbon footprint in Bali and Lombok.

Aiming to reach the group’s goals by 2025, Marriott International in Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT. Pertagas Niaga at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, on 18 April 2023. Guided by the group’s 2025 Sustainability and Social Impact Goals, and in tandem with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, 25 hotels from Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio hotels and resorts in Bali have committed to clean energy source usage.

In addition, the signed MoU comes as an extension of Marriott’s Serve360 and a pledge to make a positive impact wherever Marriott does business. By switching from LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) to CNG (compressed natural gas), carbon emissions can be lowered by 15 percent, effectively reducing the carbon footprint. This, in turn, contributes to a greener, more sustainable environment for the community at large.

“Beyond a corporate platitude, it is impossible for us to ignore the pressing and urgent environmental needs of today. This partnership with PT. Pertagas Niaga is a step in the right direction to conserve and preserve what we have for the next generation. We look forward to expanding this to our portfolio in key cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung in the near future,” said Ramesh Jackson, area vice president of Marriott International in Indonesia.
