Recently launched in Jakarta, the latest E-Class model, the all-new E200 Avantgarde Line saloon has a distinct, emotive and sleek exterior complemented by a high-quality, stylish interior. The intuitive infotainment, control and parking systems along with a collection of technical innovations propel the comfort and driving experience to an all new level.
Design
The exterior features elegant lines which, along with the dual-flared headlights, elongated bonnet and coupé-style roof and the sculptured side panelling craft a sophisticated, sleek and sensual look. The latest E-Class is marginally larger than the last model and with short overhangs, a long wheelbase and stylized alloy wheels, the E200 appears poised, fresh, dynamic and eager.
The high-quality cabin is a contemporary take on the classic E-Class interior with a mix of advanced materials, Artico leather, polished aluminium and hi-grade plastics. There’s also a host of ergonomic and design improvements including fully electrically adjusted seats designed to provide maximum comfort and support over long distances, the curvaceous door and centre-console trim, wide-screen visibility and atmospheric LED interior lighting with 64 colours.
For added comfort the cabin is slightly larger and airier and benefits from improved rear legroom and has plenty of storage, a must in the modern world. The boot is a load-swallowing 540-litre capacity, ideal for golf, shopping and business trips.
Tech
Key technical advancements include touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel that respond precisely to horizontal and vertical swiping movements, (like your smartphone) allowing the driver to control the entire infotainment system using finger swipes and without having to take their hands off the steering wheel. In addition the infotainment system can be controlled via a touchpad in the centre console which also gives direct control of other systems such as navigation and air-conditioning in a more traditional manner.
To make parking easier, the E200 Avantgarde Line comes standard with Parking Pilot, Mercedes-Benz’s innovative system that helps choose a space and can manoeuvre the vehicle automatically for perfect placement. There’s also complete smartphone integration and wireless charging for your convenience and the wireless, inductive charging system works with all mobile devices that support the Qi standard. It’s also possible to use Apple’s smartphone-based infotainment system CarPlay® as well as Google’s Android Auto™.
Fitted with a four-cylinder, 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine coupled with the new fast and smooth 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard, the powertrain delivers an impressive 184HP. The suspension set up gives the highest level of ride comfort in the segment.
The E200 Avantgarde Line successfully builds upon the long Mercedes-Benz executive saloon pedigree and will appeal to both those loyal to the marque and new owners who value quality, style and prestige.
